Monkey Bay is a very intriguing and enjoyable MMORTS that might not bring anything new to the table in terms of gameplay but still manages to provide a great experience thanks to its fascinating pirate themed setting and also because of how well it manages to execute the fundamentals and basics of this genre.
Of course the one drawback that most, if not all, RTS games have to face is the fact that they come with a pretty steep learning curve that might put off new players who don’t want to invest a lot of time into learning the game. Fortunately though, Monkey Bay comes with a very interactive and engaging tutorial that not only manages to retain the attention of the players that get into the game but alongside this it also teaches them all that they need to know in order to play the game proficiently.
The objective of Monkey Bay is to become the most feared pirate to ever exist an in order to do so you must build up your island and turn it into one of the most heavily fortified places in existing and alongside this you must also keep your opponents down by constantly raiding their bases and collecting whatever loot that they might have. Building up an island in Monkey Bay is a very fun task because players are given tons of tools that they can utilize to create a base that not only looks great but is also well guarded from any attack. Thinking of a base design in your head and watching it come to fruition is definitely one of the most satisfying experiences ever.
Attacking other islands in Monkey Bay is also insanely enjoyable because you get to put together an army consist of various kinds of units, strategize and formulate and attack, launch it on your opponent and then watch your opponents base go down in flames. Launching an attack on enemies is a very high risk high reward task because if your attack goes successful then you’ll get your hands on tons of loot but if you end up failing then all the money that you spent building up your army will have gone to waste.
Monkey Bay also delivers a very enjoyable experience in terms of visuals. The in-game colors are bright, shiny and vibrant. The animations are smooth and fluid, the unit designs are very high quality, the artwork is top notch and overall there’s a lot to like about how the graphics of this game have been laid out.
As for micro-transactions, you’ll be able to use real world money to purchase the in-game currency with real world money and you can then use said currency for various in-game tasks like constructing structures, speeding up on-going tasks and more.
Monkey Bay might not be the most revolutionary MMORTS out there but it’s definitely one of the most enjoyable.
