RAID: Shadow Legends may seem to just be another hero-collecting RPG, but it’s a tier above its peers in many levels. Though its gameplay loop is something that will be familiar to you, its graphics and presentation elements far exceed those of its peers. However, its heavy focus on microtransactions dampens the overall experience. Regardless, if you’re a fan of hero collector titles, this is definitely one of the games you have to put on your backlog. So, is it something you’d want to play? Before you decide, let’s check out what it has to offer:

In RAID: Shadow Legends, the world of Teleria is embroiled in chaos. Without diving deep into spoilers, you’re tasked to fight fallen knights and corrupt, warmongering kings after a dragon killed what could have potentially been the saviors of the world. Anyway, the lore is told through beautifully-drawn pencil cutscenes and voiced by decent actors who actually know what they’re doing behind the mic.

Though RAID: Shadow Legends initially gives you only one champion, you’ll gain access as you progress. Champions vary in capabilities, rarities, and factions which number up to 16. These include the Lizardmen, Banner Lords, High Elves, and the Sacred Order. You can summon heroes through the Portal, which is located in your Bastion (base of operations), using mystery shards. Thing is, it’s better to wait and just progress through the campaign. The game doesn’t give you rare shards to work with at the start.

RAID: Shadow Legends’ controls are tap-based, meaning you won’t have to worry about virtual joysticks and complicated button press combinations. You’re required to play through the campaign first to boost your level and earn rewards. There are other modes like Dungeon, Arena, and Clan Boss, but these features are locked by level caps and other specific requirements. You can automate campaign battles to make things a little convenient.

Most of the time, you’ll be spending hours tweaking champions, leveling them up, and editing their equipment. The battle mechanics aren’t deep, but they’re pretty fun to watch. The game follows a rock-paper-scissors strength and weakness mechanic and characters can unleash special skills, like AoE attacks and aura buffs. Note that the battles are set-piece, and you’ll have three champions on your team. Apart from regular enemy units, you’ll also go up against large bosses with the option to raid them in the latter parts of the campaign.

Unfortunately, RAID: Shadow Legends is microtransaction-heavy. Though you won’t face any trouble within the first hour or two, you’ll start heading into the trouble after the initial stages. You may need to level your characters up by repeating levels. There’s an energy system, but don’t worry, it’s not restrictive and will only affect your playtime when you’re probably 10-15 hours in or at the advanced levels in the campaign. Moreover, the game is generous with rewards, especially with champions and equipment. Granted, you’ll have enough to equip your team.

Overall, RAID: Shadow Legends is a must-play title not only for hero-collecting enthusiasts but also for those looking for a decent title to play. Its graphics and audio aspects stand out from most of its rival So, give it a shot and start your journey to save Teleria!
