The prospect of playing a game with a huge world in a mobile device has always been enthralling. After all, the prospect of exploring a whole new world on a small and portable device has been something we’ve all dreamed of. RebirthM is a game that lets you do this. You’re put in the shoes of a newbie adventurer in a world full of strife and war of good vs evil. Although it has a war-torn setting there are some beautiful places to explore, exciting quests to get done, and monsters to battle. It follows the typical MMO formula, reminiscent of old PC games. Unfortunately, the game suffers from a few minor gaffes and questionable gameplay decisions which affect the overall experience.
RebirthM follows an intriguing yet unoriginal story of an evil god resurrected by a country called the Verkhan Kingdom. Realms from across the Arkloth continent, which are the good guys united under one banner to fight the forces of evil. Unfortunately, the forces of good can’t do anything but force a perpetual stalemate which is always the case if you’re fighting a godly being bent on destruction. Nevertheless, hope is not lost: you’re there to become the hero of legend, off to deliver the forces of good to victory. Although the lore is poorly-explained thanks to bad translation and localization (the game is full of awkwardly-constructed sentences), you’ll still get a good grip of the story as you finish the quests.
Character creation lacks deep customization elements in RebirthM. Once you select a class you want to play as, you can only pick among three preset appearances. This means you won’t be able to your character’s eyes and faces. You’ll need to rely on your equipment to somehow set yourself apart from other players. There are four character classes to choose from. First is the Slayer, a fast-moving warrior wielding dual blades, followed by the Berserker, a lumbering warrior that deals huge amounts of damage. They are followed by the Ranger, a bow-user, and the Mage, a magic caster. Classes are gender-locked, with the first two mentioned above male and the last two being female.
The core gameplay mainly involves you moving around the world on a virtual joystick, interacting with NPCs and fellow players. The world is expansive, though it’s not exactly “open” since it’s divided into several sections you can only travel around in by talking to an NPC or with a wyvern. There are questionable monetization aspects like paying for a certain amount of jewels (freemium currency) to teleport to your destination which is an unhealthy practice. Quest-givers are everywhere, and the quests they provide range from kill quests to fetch quests. There are is auto-quest mechanic best for players who just want to chill out.
In terms of presentation, RebirthM excels. The graphics are fairly decent, its animations smooth, and framerates stable. The user interface is also fairly intuitive with buttons and clearly-defined icons placed on the right areas of the screen.
Overall, RebirthM is a fairly decent MMORPG. Though it is hampered by poor localization, it contains a lot of places to explore and things to do. Give it a shot and start your journey of defeating the evil god and the kingdom of Verkhan!
