Gods and Glory: War for Throne appears to be one of your typical, run-of-the-mill real-time strategy games. It even looks like Game of War: Fire Age, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. It has both city-building and RPG elements you might be looking for in a strategy game, and though it may not be the most original chip off the block, it does a few things well. You might either love the game or hate it within your first few play sessions. Nevertheless, it is worth looking to what it has to offer.

Gods and Glory: War for Throne is set in a fantasy world wherein warring kingdoms - or empires (which are basically just cities) - fight for supremacy. It’s a cruel world, and your mission is to emerge as the top dog so your little empire won’t have to suffer. It possesses the typical city-building elements, wherein you’re supposed to build a small settlement into a bustling city with numerous facilities. From universities to homes to buildings that gather resources, you’ll need to build them all to make your settlement thrive.

Gods and Glory: War for Throne follows the usual mechanic of “tap and wait”. In a nutshell, this involves constructing a new building and waiting for several minutes (or hours or days for advanced buildings) for it to finish. If you want things to speed up, you can use gems, which is the in-game premium currency.

Thankfully, the game does a good job in letting you know the buildings that you should construct. There is a “quests” tab which is just a progression guide. Following it will yield rewards, such as resources and experience. These aren’t original to Gods and Glory: War for Throne, and the city design even looks recycled from another game. Nevertheless, the visuals are nothing short of attractive.

Apart from the city-building aspect, another crucial element of the game is its battling system. Basically, you will receive a hero at the start of the game, and you will be responsible in making him or her stronger in order to make your future battles easier. With that said, he will be accompanied by your army, which is essentially just a few selected units that you can change or set up.

The developers boast of the game’s “deep” battling system, but we’re sorry to say that it’s as shallow as a puddle. There isn’t much you can do, except choose which units to fight and change their positions. After which, they will automatically bash each other with their weapons and all you’ll have to do is watch it all transpire. It would have been better if you could actually select certain moves your army will take.

Gods and Glory: War for Throne may have decent-looking graphics and an intuitive UI, but it’s an unoriginal entry to an already bloated genre. Though the overall experience is further increased if you’re playing with friends, there’s just not much to do, and it’s likely you may drop the game after several play sessions. Nevertheless, it’s worth a shot and who knows, it might appeal to you.
