Finally, someone made a MOBA battle royale, and it’s a blast. Survival Heroes takes inspiration from popular mobile MOBA games, like Mobile Legends and Vainglory, turning it into a battle royale game comparable to PUBG. The formula of both genres fits seamlessly well with one another, which is a pleasant surprise and is definitely something that has never been done before. With that said however, should it be something you should download and play right away? Let’s check out what it has to offer.
Survival Heroes starts with a tutorial right after a character creation phase. The controls are fairly simple and typical of a regular mobile MOBA. You move around using a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen. Meanwhile, the attack and skill buttons are on the right side, and you can use your items by pressing the buttons on the bottom middle part. Picking up items and searching chests, shelves, and carts are done by pressing a small popup indicator that appears when you approach them. Though there’s a small learning curve, you can easily master the game’s intricacies and you will be ready to face the pros after a few practice matches.
Each game starts with you dropping into a rather large map from a ship. The map is sizable enough and there are monsters lurking around the corners. The locations vary, with areas that look like a medieval residential area to large buildings chock-full of chests and loot. Bushes litter the battlefield, and they make great hiding spots, especially if your HP is low and you’re running away from an enemy. The play area dwindles as the match progresses. You need to get inside a circular magical barrier that keeps away the game’s version of the “storm”.
In Survival Heroes, instead of choosing your heroes at the start, your skills and abilities are dependent on the items you’ve picked up. Weapons range from something laughable as a frying pan to something more sinister like a bow blessed by the sun and a sword that allows its wielder to spin around, dealing damage to enemies with every rotation. There are three skills present in every weapon type and you’ll have to take note of them so you will know which one you’ll have to use whenever you clash with opponents.
Apart from weapons, you can also pick up armor and accessories in the game’s world. The armor ranges from regular ones that give an added defense boost, to more advanced varieties that hand out an added magic defense boost. Boots that increase movement speed and accessories that can give lifesteal effects can also be picked up. All in all, the items you can pick up are similar to the ones you encounter on MOBA games.
Overall, Survival Heroes is probably the first MOBA and battle royale mix in the industry, and it has raises the bar high for possible similar games in the future. With fairly decent presentation elements (there is English voice acting) and outstanding gameplay, it’s definitely a game you would want to download, try out, and play with your friends.
