Choose from many real-world-inspired teams to represent you in virtual football. Starting the game focuses on a tutorial that covers ball handling, scoring, and team rotations. Game controls are basic and easy, and it won’t take long before you get a hold of the essentials, and all you need to figure out is how to be more consistent with your team handling. There is a movement pad for guiding your baller and dedicated buttons for sprinting, tackling, defending, and, of course, shooting for those goals. Some controls appear depending on whether you are on offense or defense. The goalkeeper has its own set of actions that center on passing the ball to the rest of the team.

Modes of control are divided into Manual and Coach settings. To put this simply, Manual control focuses on one player at a time, while Coach is planning moves from a bird’s eye view perspective. Footballer movements are plotted out, and everything becomes a puzzle on how to overcome the opposing team’s player spread.

Football Dream: Be a Pro has single-player and multiplayer content. Challenge matches are the closest the app has to Career mode. The ‘seasons’ here are shown as chapters, where your performance is based on how fast you can score against an opposing team. You will be spending a considerable amount of time on this mode to unlock other ways to play the game. Game modes are time-locked here: the longer you stay to play, the more options open to you. Other single-player content starts with Event Matches: time-gated football bouts filled with special conditions such as unlimited scoring. Those who are less confident in playing football on mobile can take advantage of Free Training and AI matches. These are more than enough to get you up to speed with how to properly move around and weave through the rival team.

Like many sports games on mobile, PvP is the constant and the typical ‘endgame’. You can schedule a friendly match with an online buddy or take on other players’ teams in seasonal tournaments. These are real-time matches, so you know that the teams are optimally assembled by whoever you’re up against. The biggest rewards are found here, and this game is making sure that it’s only for the most willing.

Footballers are obtained through card packs. They were separated by grades, each with their own colors. Silver players are the starting squad that a player uses on the tutorial and in the first few games. They’re gradually replaced by Gold, Black, Diamond, and Flame players. Everyone’s endgame team will be composed mostly of Flame players to stay in the running.

What about the playing experience? AI opponents adapt based on the difficulty setting given to them. They are rather easy to predict at the start, until they slowly reveal their tricks. Annotation lines throughout the game are randomized, but expect some lines to be repeated from one match to the next. Slow-motion sequences, particularly when scoring a goal, can be sped up or skipped altogether, but extra time to relax those fingers helps.
