SD Gundam G Generation: ETERNAL lets you collect mobile suits and pilots from across different Gundam series. Play this game on Android or iOS.
Those who have played other SD Gundam games will feel at home with the various graphics and skill animations, which serve fast and tactical gameplay. If you, the reader, are considering this as your starting Gundam collector game, there are plenty of things you can pick up here.
The SD stands for Super Deformed: this is a line of Bandai’s plastic model kits where the robots are given ‘chibi’ body proportions. The SD appearance has been featured in various Gundam-related media, including the original short films, animated series, and now, video games.
Let’s look into the game proper. You’ll spend the first few hours of play navigating through summarized versions of the mainline Gundam series. There is the series-spanning Universal Century stories, with alternate universes branching out as you go. Story segments can be skipped and replayed in your Base. Other content includes Events: limited-run stories based on smaller Gundam stories. There are also Fierce Enemy Assault instances where you are rewarded with game currency, resources, and the featured mobile suit. The usual mission objective is to destroy the target enemy before running out of turns. You’re going to fight squads of series-specific mecha in Eternal Road, available in 3 difficulty tiers. Lastly, there’s a week-long seasonal PvP event called Master League.
Combat utilizes grid-based tactical maps with a bird’s-eye view. You can use mobile suit skills before moving your squad members. How far your mecha can be moved is based on its Movement stat: higher move stats mean the robot can cover more squares on a map.
Engaging an enemy starts by using the Select Weapon function. A mobile suit can have up to 4 weapons, each with different ranges, effects, and the number of targets affected. Weapons also have attributes that are effective against some armor types and are resisted by others.
There are additional actions you can do before engaging in combat. The first is a supporting attack, where you can tap nearby supporting allies to fire at the same target. Meanwhile, there are two defensive options: Support Counter lets a support unit damage an attacking enemy, while Defend allows a Defender-type mobile suit to absorb punishment from an attacker. Offensive units have pilots with a Chance Skill: this lets you attack another target once the previous one is destroyed.
You can use AUTO to let your characters act independently and finish a mission – as long as your units are strong enough to take down enemies in a single hit.
Now we go to the playable characters. You’re going to work with Units, Pilots, and Supporters. Units are your main chess pieces: the mobile suits that do the job of putting down enemies while staying alive. Pilots are characters from the Gundam universe with unique skill and ability layouts. Supporters are the motherships that give passive modifiers and are equipped with an active skill. They don’t show up as characters during an engagement. All of them come in up to 5 rarity types, with UR being the must-have characters. These can be obtained by spending Diamonds in the Unit Assembly menu. Another way to get Units is through the Develop menu, where you need Capital, the base mecha to build from, and the required number of Development Material.
In summary, SD Gundam G Generation Eternal is a casual collector game with plenty of fun to find.
