Age of Empires is a famous real-time strategy (RTS) game known for showing players what it is like to raise a famous ancient civilization by building famous structures, growing its people to harvest resources, stacking up an army, and most importantly- and historically- having the urge of conquest by expanding your forces across the map.

The series became so loved, that people who use their phones for entertainment can play the game as well with Age of Empires II Mobile (J2ME) released in 2005. It was that time when playing, as a game was possible through portable means- let alone in a less powerful device processor.

It did not go back from being mobile but embraced it to the point that the PC has its mobile version. 2014 was the time when mobile games truly rose, and so did Age of Empires. It showed off to mobile users through the likes of Age of Empires: Castle Siege(2014), and Age of Empires: World Domination(2015).

Fast forward to 2024, Age of Empires: Mobile has been released. And who developed a game from such an IP than none other than Level Infinite, who is famously known for developing PUBG MOBILE, PUBG MOBILE LITE, NBA Infinite, Tower of Fantasy, and the new MOBA game that stormed into popularity since its debut, Honor of Kings. They showed that they could still deliver good graphics and smooth experience on mobile processors.

So what is new about the mobile version of Age of Empires? When you look at it at first, it pretty much covers the same concept as its other peers: Choosing your preferred civilization, forging your empire, building up your army, participating in conquests and sieges, and obtaining heroes recognized in history such as King Arthur, Miyamoto Mushashi, Saladin, and more You can watch over your empire solo or, as expected, with friends to join with to expand your glory even greater.

Speaking of solo and multiplayer, this game does not fully present itself as a full-fledged RTS, but rather it has a linear structure as a mobile strategy game to get things done, especially in multiplayer. That is where the “Alliance” comes in, the more the merrier. When working with others, it is much easier and more manageable to handle certain tasks for your empire.

The graphics and detail share the same semblance as of the latest Age of Empires games on PC. Though mobile graphics are no match for the PC, it still does hold well pleasantly on its own. It is worth mentioning that it kept the series’ essence in terms of appearance, and the designs of the heroes are amazing.

The environment felt alive instead of staying static, making it flat. The trees react to the direction of the wind for example. It comes with a weather system for a greater variety of its liveliness. Level Infinite knows how to bring life even when not controlled by the player, which is the inner soul of what makes Age of Empires special in the first way.

Age of Empires Mobile has risen to become part of the building mobile strategy game. It still holds the core aspects like placing your buildings wherever you want, what army to build, and expecting your strength to rise before challenging or defending against enemies, but do not forget to build alliances to progress even further. The game is available on Android and iOS so you can try rise your empire at your hands- literally.
