Hero Rescue 2 is a breath of fresh air in the puzzle genre, and its challenging yet accessible easy-to-learn gameplay mechanics make it a must-play for anyone looking for good brain-teasers. Instead of the usual tried-and-tested gameplay mechanics, it introduces a physics-based “pull-the-pin” system you might have already seen in some mobile game ads. With that said, is Hero Rescue 2 something you’d want to dive into? Well, before you decide, let’s first take a look at what it provides.
The first thing you’ll notice about Hero Rescue 2 is its biggest and most unique asset: the “pull-the-pin” system, which it takes full advantage of. Basically, you’ll get to play through countless levels, each presenting unique challenges and differing goals. These include saving the princess and ensuring she’s safe from lava and enemies, looting treasure and making sure they don’t get damaged and defeating enemies using the environment (and themselves). Moreover, note these levels aren’t just copy-pasted - they’re relatively unique in their composition and in the way you approach them.
Hero Rescue 2’s gameplay revolves around pulling pins to alter the environment, get rid of obstacles and elements that would harm the hero, princess, and treasure. With that said, you really should not pull the pin haphazardly without thinking far in advance since doing so will undoubtedly lead to failure. Instead, you need to think carefully about which nails to yank - since some are just there to confuse you - which ones to tug first. In addition, some aspects in the levels interact with each other, like lava which can torch anything, and water, which turns the lava into rock, negating its harmful effects. Plus, enemies react to what you do: they’ll fire arrows at your hero the moment they see you or charge forward with a sword in hand when you land in front of them. To defeat them, you’ll have to use the things around the environment, like the rocks and lava.
Hero Rescue 2 has microtransactions, although you don’t need to spend a cent to enjoy what it has to offer. It has ads, but you have the option to purchase the ad-free version. You’ll earn coins whenever you finish a level (and receive x3 if you choose to watch an ad) which you can then use to buy costumes for the hero. These range from a king with a crown, a werewolf, and an imperator. In terms of presentation, Hero Rescue 2 takes a more straightforward approach. It uses 2D sprites and relatively simple yet pleasing to the eye models to show the characters and the environment. It’s not the most high-definition game out there, but it manages to hold up well amongst its peers.
Overall, Hero Rescue 2 is a decent puzzle game that you’d want to jump into. This is thanks to its unique pull the pin mechanics that sets it apart from its peers. Moreover, its many levels, each presenting a plethora of challenges, always presents something new.
