Idle RPGs the most active and immersive titles nor do they require your participation. They don’t need you to be constantly there to tap the screen, press buttons, and pilot your characters to victory. They don’t work that way. However, these are some of the reasons why some gamers, especially those who do not have the time nor the energy to put in the effort to strengthen their characters to progress, enjoy them. To level up and make your characters as powerful as possible, you just need to check in them for a few minutes and then let the gameplay itself out.
Dungeon Breaker Heroes follows this formula and executes it pretty well. It’s a classic 2D idle RPG where you just collect characters, called hunters, and go through endless dungeons. Their goal is to save the queen who was kidnapped by an army of rampaging monsters. Though their task is ultimately futile (considering the dungeons are limitless), it’s fulfilling to see them do battle and achieve victory against hordes of powerful foes, getting stronger and further every time they start over. In addition, the game has several quality-of-life improvements which make gathering rewards relatively smooth and easy.
Unfortunately, if you’re looking for something new and fresh, Dungeon Hero Breakers isn’t it. However, it does well with what it has. Your hunters will fight monsters and it’s your job to use the coins they collect along the way to level them up top put them in tip-top shape against future opponents. Apart from this, the upgrade system is fairly robust though straightforward. All you have to do is wait until they pick up certain materials and have enough gold to upgrade their skills and gear.
In addition, it’s also a must to try out special modes and dungeons in order to gather the needed materials. Here, your characters will battle large bosses while cooperating with other players. Dungeon Breaker Heroes has a lot of characters you buy or collect. Note that some hunters automatically join your group when you reach certain stages. As for others, you’re required to purchase them. You can also decide who makes up your team, and it’s a must to create the best class combinations possible. Classes include physical damager, tankers, and magic users.
In terms of presentation, Dungeon Breaker Heroes does not exactly look like it will win awards, but it holds up well when compared to its peers. Though the backgrounds are static and a little bland, the chibi character models are quite detailed and well-made. The textures are smooth and well-defined. Though some of the characters are cliche and generic (female knights, lady rangers, a dude wearing a suit and tie while wielding a crossbow), they have great designs and some stand out, like the close-range boxer/brawler.
Overall, Dungeon Breaker Heroes is a decent idle RPG that warrants a try. Though it may not stand out from its peers, it does well and it delivers. If you’re looking for a new idle game to invest in, we highly recommend checking it out. Who knows, it could be something you’d like to play during a lunch break or while you’re in line at the grocery store.
