Game of Summoner combines old-school dungeon crawler aesthetics and character management of turn-based RPGs.
You’ll start with one of the four renowned adventurers who tried to stop a great evil, and failed. With your guidance, that questor gains new allies to settle the score once and for all. The journey will take you to distant lands, putting down hordes of nether minions along the way.
Playing Game of Summoner is straightforward once you get to know the menus. The Battle menu has all you need to hone the skills of your loyal followers and men-at-arms. Dungeons is where the main quest takes place. It’s the typical rid the worlds of as many monsters as you can. Every third stage features a boss that when defeated, rewards the player with Gems. Arena and Peak Arena lets you pit your best team against another player’s lineup. Claim the top spots and bag the best rewards. Resources to empower your heroes are up for grabs in Gold Mine and Dragon’s Treasures. The Invasion of BOSS is where raid events take place. Great prizes await those who deal the highest damage.
The Heroes menu is where you optimize your character stats, skills, and level limits. Skill Points are assigned to each hero to amplify their abilities’ effects. You don’t need to worry about running out of this resource unlike in other games. Skill Points replenish over time. What you need to manage is the Gold cost to raise levels with and the Hero’s limits. Equipment is another factor that powers up your loyal servants, and strengthening it requires Upgrade Stones. Promotion raises skill level limits, which require a set of items to be obtained from questing. Evolution raises the maximum Hero level, and this needs a unit duplicate to commence.
You can get more Heroes from the Summon Menu, which is divided in four parts. Event and Ancient Boxes give you a chance to get the highest-rarity Heroes in the game, but they require Gems to be used. In case the Gems won from questing isn’t enough, you can get more from the in-game store using real money. The Common Box lets you summon using Gold, but you won’t have access to the best Heroes the game has to offer. The Soul Box is a gacha for Hero Souls. Souls are character fragments that when completed, becomes a unit you can use.
Controls-wise, Heroes will begin attacking adjacent enemies. Their skill meter is gradually filled as they deal damage. Once the gauge is ready, tap the hero to unleash their skills. These talents either deal damage, apply buffs and/or debuffs, or heal your units. You can adjust the game speed to get through content immediately.
Once you’ve progressed into the game far enough, you can join a guild and partake in quests with other players. There are limited rewards only guild members can get, so enlist in one when you can.
In a nutshell, Game of Summoner appeals to players who prefer a retro vibe with their adventure games. Shine that sword and strap on your shield, for this is quite a long quest ahead.
