In Heroes of Skyrealm, gamers will initially take the mantle of Reinhard, the rebellious ringleader of a band of heroes. In a nutshell, the game is all about restoring peace and order into the world, and fighting evil in the process. With fantastic 3D graphics and well-rendered visual effects, the game looks and plays great. There are little nuances and framerate drops every now and then, but overall, it is fluid and pretty stable. With that said though, is it something you would want to try out and play? Let’s find out.

The game starts off in a tutorial, with a short cinematic and dialogue of Reinhard jumping off an airship and discussing his course of action with his friend, Darius. After the short talk, you will be oriented about the basic facets of the gameplay, like moving and attacking. The left joystick on the bottom left corner of the screen lets you move your character, while a sword icon on the right side lets you swing your sword at the baddies. Next to the attack button are several others that let you activate your “tactical” skills. These are special moves that can deal a lot of damage.

Later on in the tutorial, you will also gain control of Servo, a hammer-wielding robotic hero. Apparently, switching characters is a thing in Heroes of Skyrealm, and doing so only requires you to tap on the character portrait on the upper left side of the screen. Automatically, the hero you switched from will be AI-controlled. Thankfully, the AI isn’t as dumb as a bag of bricks: they seamlessly attack, retreat, and cooperate with you. There’s no way to issue commands, but you wouldn’t need to do so.

After the tutorial ends, you will be brought to the giant airship that serves as your base/home menu. From here, you will be able to access a variety of functions, like summoning new heroes, upgrading equipment, or to assemble a new team There is a vast world in Heroes of Skyrealm, but you don’t go around it in an open world setting. Instead, you will do so by tapping different locations on the map, and you will then be brought to your preferred destination. At the start though, you will be strictly following a story, requiring you to perform missions like defeating all the monsters.

Apart from the single player campaigns, you can take your three-hero team online to do battle against or with other players online. There is a co-op mode that lets you go on adventures with other players to defeat monsters and complete levels. An arena mode lets you fight online, but the selling point is the unique mode called the Tower Offense Battle Arena, or TOBA.

Saying that Heroes of Skyrealm’s graphics is top-notch is a stretch, but it’s fairly decent. The art style is a cross between an western cartoons and Japanese anime: character models and sprites are well-made. The game’s voice acting is above average, which is a major plus.

Overall, Heroes of Skyrealm is a fairly decent MMORPG, thanks to its outstanding single player and varied PvP modes. It is also pretty simple to play and easy to master, making it a perfect time-burner. This might be the game you’re looking for, so be sure to give it a try!
